The purpose of this study is to see if the enrollment in a course (entitled “Health Education Theater”) causes any changes in five major outcomes.

These five outcomes include:
(1) the knowledge about guidelines about (a) physical activity and (b) diet/nutrition.

(2) compliance to these guidelines.

The third outcome is (3) the economic efficiency (e.g., return on investment (ROI)) estimated by a cost-benefit analysis (CBA)). This will account for productivity loss (e.g., income loss) saved in the long-term (e.g., life time).

The fourth outcome is (4) health related quality of life.

The fifth outcome is (5) self-perception well-being measures such as self-esteem and and selfefficacy.
This study requires

If you agree to participate in this research, you will be asked to complete a survey for four times scheduled below:

(i) A paper-form questionnaire during the 1st class (the week beginning April 1, 2019).

(ii) A paper-form questionnaire during the 10th class (the week beginning June 3, 2019).

(ii) An online questionnaire 6 months after the end of course (during the period of December 1-15, 2019). This will be sent via email.

(iii) An online questionnaire one year after the end of the course (during the period of June 1-15, 2020). This will be sent via email.

You will be asked questions about: (1) your knowledge about guidelines relating to (a) physical activity and (b) diet/nutrition

(2) your compliance to these guidelines.

Who can participate

Inclusion criteria:

  • University of California (UC) Davis students who register for the course entitled " Health Education Theater," to be held during the 2019 Spring Quarter, i.e., from April 2019 to June 2019.

Exclusion criteria:

  • Adults unable to consent
  • Individuals who are not yet adults (infants, children, teenagers)
  • Prisoners
  • Individuals who are not compliant to this project's guideline of health limitations. Under this project guideline, absences due to health limitations are not expected to exceed 3 days maximum in addition to standard class policy during the quarter. As long as a subject is compliant to this project guideline and the additional accommodations authorized by the UC Davis Student Disability Center (SDC), any student (including a pregnant woman student and a student with a disability) can participate in this study.
Benefits and risks of participating

We cannot promise any benefits to you as a result of taking part in this research study.


The study doctor will discuss the risks associated with taking part in this research study.
You will not be paid to take part in this research study.
Study duration and period
If you agree to take part in this research, you will be asked to complete a survey for four times. It will take about 20 minutes to complete each survey.
