Age: 18 to 65 years old
Healthy Volunteers: No
Keywords: Bariatric surgery, morbid obesity, adipose tissue, genetics, biomechanical markers
Type: Other study
500 Participants
Fat cells in the body store key metabolic and genetic functions. We believe that inflammation contributes to obesity and to the medical problems associated with obesity. It is the goal of our research to analyze harvested fat and muscle cells. You are being asked to take part in this study if you will be having medically-necessary weight loss surgery.
This study requires

During your weight loss surgery, surgeons will: - Remove some abdominal fat. - Take a liver biopsy sample. - Collect a small piece of Jejunum (part of your small intestine) and muscle tissue.

Other medical procedures and testing may be done. Your physician will discuss those with you prior to taking part in the study.

Further information regarding study-related testing and procedures is available on the informed consent form you will sign if you decide to participate.
